FORUM Connemara Farm Health & Safety

FORUM Connemara’s Farm Health & Safety initiative is a new European innovation Partnership (EIP).
The project is funded by the European Union and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine

under the EIP Funding programmes.

What We Do

We aim to improve safety by highlighting the importance of proactive safety checks, ensuring compliance with legal as well as insurance requirements, implementing best farming practice, and positively impacting the mental and physical health of the farming community in Connemara.
The team will share information and data gathered with farmers in the target areas, at ‘walk-ins’ at marts and agricultural shows as well as those 45 farmers we currently engage with on the scheme throughout Connemara as well as schools, local community groups and other interested parties.

Program Content

The following objectives will be met by FORUM Connemara during the 12-month programme:

  • Increase Knowledge – We will deliver a specially tailored Connemara Farming Health & Safety (CF-HANDS) Training Programme.

  • Increase Awareness - We will deliver a pilot Farming Health, Safety and Wellbeing Radio show to also include a Social Media campaign.

  •  Share Information – Host Health, Safety & Wellbeing talks at marts, shows, schools and youth service participants providing information & advocacy.

  • Improve Safety - Creation of Connemara Farm Health & Safety packs to include first aid kits and safety gear as well as completing 140 Farm Risk Assessments across Connemara.

  • Be Innovative - Highlight and pilot new innovations and showcase new technology to help the Connemara farmer farm safer.
